About Four Feathers Farm

IMG_2488.HEIC

Four Feathers Farm, founded by Sawyer Mercado, is a small acreage in Clinton County, Iowa, that grows fresh produce year-round for anyone wanting to participate in the farm-to-table lifestyle.

Four Feathers Farm solely grows microgreens—vegetables picked in their first growth stage and just establishing stems and leaves. We produce a variety of microgreens including broccoli, radish, peas, sunflower, cabbage, and kale.

Why microgreens? Microgreens and locally grown produce are proven to be substantially healthier than most foods purchased in stores today. The factory processing of our grains, meats, and vegetables causes them to lose a majority of their vitamins and minerals.  We don't benefit from those foods as we should. The best way to combat the trending reliance on processed food is to buy locally and grow food ourselves.

In 2019, Sawyer endeavored on the conservation path. He learned about plants and the Midwest prairie and applied his knowledge in the garden, growing prairie seeds, vegetables, and mushrooms.

Eventually, Sawyer stumbled upon microgreens. He was inspired by the prospect of healthy local food that can be produced sustainably and quickly. His indoor vertical growth method uses substantially less water, soil, and time, and eliminates crop damage concerns.

Growing large quantities of healthy food for the community is rewarding, and Four Feathers Farm is enjoying the journey.
